Last week in Baku, during a Framesi seminar, I worked on a transformation that’s very common in the salon and always satisfying when it’s executed with control: achieving a cool blonde starting from 6–7 cm of natural salt-and-pepper regrowth and yellow, warm lengths.
The key is simple: lift cleanly, then tone with precision so the blonde stays cool and luminous, never flat.
Starting point
Regrowth: 6–7 cm natural grey / salt-and-pepper
Lengths: warm and yellow
Goal: a cool, modern blonde with a soft root blend and refined, bright lengths
Step 1 — Lightening (cleaning the canvas)
To remove the yellow and bring the hair to the right level for a cool finish, I lightened using:
Framesi Decolor B Cream
Target level: Level 9
Processing time: 1 hour
Reaching a level 9 is crucial here, because it gives you enough brightness to neutralize warmth properly during toning, without forcing the toner to “overwork” and risk dullness.
Step 2 — Root toning (blending with the natural greys)
On the root area, the goal was to create a refined cool blend that complements the natural greys instead of fighting them.
Root toner: Framesi Framcolor Glamour 9.61
Mixing ratio: 1:1
Activator: 10 volumes
Processing time: 30 minutes
Step 3 — Lengths toning (cool, clean, still bright)
On the level 9 lengths, I refined the tone and removed the remaining warm reflection using:
Lengths toner: Framesi Framcolor Glamour 10.626 + 10.61
Mixing ratio: 1:1
Activator: 10 volumes
Processing time: 30 minutes
This combination is ideal when you want a cool finish that looks modern and “expensive”, but still keeps the blonde clear and luminous.
Final result
A cool blonde that:
neutralizes yellow warmth
blends naturally with a salt-and-pepper base
looks clean in daylight and on camera
grows out softer, because the root area is toned with intention
