A clean blonde is great, but the toning is what makes highlights look truly refined. For this look, I wanted a natural grey blending result: cool and modern, but still soft, luminous, and totally wearable.

This is the exact toning approach I used on level 9 pre-lightened highlights over a natural salt-and-pepper base (around 60% grey), using Framesi Framcolor Glamour.

Starting point

  • Base: natural salt-and-pepper / naturally grey (~60% grey)

  • Lightening result: highlights lifted to Level 9

  • Goal: refine residual warmth on the highlights and blend them seamlessly into the natural grey base

  • Finish: a soft grey-beige tone with natural dimension

With around 60% grey, the goal is not to “fight” the grey. It’s to enhance it, and make the lighter pieces look intentional, elegant, and cohesive.

Toner formula (Framesi Framcolor Glamour)

Shades:

  • 10.61

  • 10.626

  • 10.16

Mixing ratio: 1:1

Activator: 10 volumes

Application: on dry hair

Processing time: 20 minutes

Why this works so well on a 60% grey base

This combination is ideal when the client has a significant natural grey presence, because it:

  • neutralizes unwanted warmth on level 9 without killing brightness

  • creates a soft, smoky-refined effect (not metallic, not flat)

  • helps the highlights melt into the salt-and-pepper base for a more natural grow-out

Application notes (on dry hair)

Applying on dry hair gives more control over deposit and porosity, especially on pre-lightened sections. I focus on full saturation and visually monitor the tone during the 20 minutes to keep the result luminous and airy.

Final result

A natural grey blending finish: cool, seamless, modern, and perfectly balanced with a 60% natural grey base.
