Curly hair does not need to be “tamed”. It needs a haircut that respects the curl pattern, controls volume in the right places, and keeps the ends light so the shape stays beautiful for days.

For this look, I worked on 3B curls with medium density and low porosity. I cut the hair on dry curls to see the real pattern and shrinkage, then I styled using Morphosis Curl Soul for hydration and elasticity, and Framesi For-Me 308 applied before diffusing for definition and long-lasting control.

Hair diagnosis: 3B + medium density + low porosity (what this means)

  • 3B curls are tight and springy, with noticeable shrinkage. They can look amazing, but they show imbalance quickly if the shape is not built correctly.

  • Medium density means we have enough hair to create a full silhouette, but we still need smart weight removal to prevent bulk.

  • Low porosity hair has a compact cuticle. It often:

    • resists absorbing moisture and product at first,

    • gets weighed down easily if you over-apply,

    • looks best with controlled product amounts and good distribution.

The goal of the haircut

  • Create a rounded, balanced silhouette

  • Keep volume controlled and elegant

  • Remove weight without “random thinning”

  • Enhance definition and movement

  • Avoid the classic triangle shape

My technique: cutting on dry curls (why I do it)

Cutting 3B curls dry helps because:

  • I can see true shrinkage immediately, so the final length sits exactly where I want it.

  • I can work with the hair’s natural curl groups, keeping the pattern consistent.

  • I can control side volume precisely without creating holes or frizz.

How I built the shape (step by step)

  1. Structure first

I define the overall silhouette so the curls fall into a clean, rounded shape.

  2. Strategic weight removal (not thinning everywhere)

With 3B curls, over-thinning can create frizz and uneven curl behavior. I remove weight only where it builds bulk, keeping fullness while improving balance.

  3. Perimeter refinement

A clean outline is what keeps curls looking polished between wash days.

  4. Micro-adjustments on dry curls

Because I cut on dry curls, I can fine-tune symmetry and volume where the curls actually live.

Styling routine: Morphosis Curl Soul + Framesi For-Me 308 (before diffusing)

1) Morphosis Curl Soul: hydration + elasticity (low porosity-friendly approach)

On low porosity hair, less is more. I use Curl Soul to:

  • support softness and elasticity without heaviness,

  • reduce frizz,

  • help curls clump into cleaner sections.

I apply a controlled amount and distribute thoroughly, shaping curls with my hands to reinforce the spiral.

2) Framesi For-Me 308: definition + control

I apply For-Me 308 before diffusing to:

  • boost definition,

  • add control in frizz-prone areas (often the perimeter and crown),

  • improve longevity so the curl shape lasts longer.

Diffusing: how I set the curl without frizz

To keep 3B curls clean and defined:

  • minimal touching while drying,

  • diffuser used to support the curl, not separate it,

  • less disruption = less frizz and a more uniform finish.

Final result

A 3B curly haircut with:

  • a natural, rounded shape,

  • controlled volume,

  • soft, defined curls,

  • a clean, professional finish
